There are 3 main disciplines in Clay Target sports, DTL - Trap, ISSF Trap (Olympic Trap), and Skeet (which also incorporates the Olympic discipline of ISSF Skeet). Click on the menu above to view each in more depth. DTL Trap is the most popular as it is the easiest one in which to get a good basic understanding of clay target shooting, and to become more competent in a shorter space of time. There are many clubs around the country holding monthly shoots and practice. Skeet is also a good starting point but more complex for the beginner and will take longer to adapt to the challenges of each station, there are some very good video training programs available which are an invaluable tool to learn this discipline. ISSF Skeet (Olympic Skeet) ISSF Trap, (and Double Trap) also known as Trench is the elite discipline in the world of clay target shooting and is the most demanding of all the disciplines. It is also extremely expensive to set up and equipe and unlike DTL-Trap there are very few clubs catering for this area of the sport. The Brisbane Gun Club is the main venue for ISSF Trap in Qld and indeed has one of the best setups in Australia. |

The equipment needed to take part in any of these disciplines does vary, usually in the choice of shotgun as target presentation on each is quite different. Standard and mandatory for all is hearing and eye protection, especially important in skeet. Vests with pockets or leather pouches on belts for shells, closed shoes and hats or caps. Sun protection is also very important. |
